Kobayashi Ichizo Memorial Museum

Kobayashi Ichizo Memorial Museum

Following the achievements of the great "Kobayashi Ichizo" of Ikeda

Hankyu Railway founder, Kobayashi Ichizo is known not only for his work with the railways, but also in the production of many unique ventures in land development, Takarazuka musicals, film, plays and Japan's first railroad terminal department store. He also made advances in the political world as the Minister of Commerce and Industry and President of the War Reconstruction Agency.

The museum exhibits many documents, photos and movies from the days of Kobayashi Ichizo's grand entrepreneurships and displays the study room where Itsuo (Kobayashi Ichizo's creative pen name) conceived many of his ideas, as well as other historical antiques left of the former residence.

The memorial museum introduces all new contemporary concepts and experiences, offering a chance to enjoy the traditional tea room, garden where Itsuo, as a master of tea ceremony, exercised his ingenuity, as well as have a meal at the restaurant within the residence, "Gazoku Sansou". Five structures within the residence, the "Gazoku Sansou" (main building), "Sokuan" (seated tea room), "Hi-in" (tatami tea room), "Nagaya-mon" (entrance gate) and "Hei" (wall) have been listed as national cultural property.
