During the reign of Emperor Ojin, two sisters known as Kurehatori (Princess Kureha) and Ayahatori (Princess Ayaha) were said to have settled in this area and pass on the art of weaving and sewing. The "Gofuku" type of silk cloth originates from here. Even now many of those working in feilds related to clothing are worshippers at the shrine. On the 10th of January every year the shrine comes to life with people visiting to pray.
